Apparently, some people in the Naruto fandom think that being gentle and shy automatically makes you "submissive", and that you "only exist to please men".

Okay, first of all, Hinata only blushes in front of Naruto and everybody blushes in front of their crush, not just fictional characters, but real people too! Secondly, do even know what the word "hentai" means?! Obviously, “hentai" is Japanese for “porn”, but just because a character has medium-sized breasts, doesn’t mean they’re pornographic!

No, the reason why she's so shy is because she didn't like fighting and was emotionally abused by her family (minus Hanabi) for being "weak". That had a very negative impact on her childhood, and it gave her a very low self-esteem until Naruto was able to boost her confidence.

I hate it when people act like being shy is a "turn on for men". IT'S FUCKING NOT!! Shyness is most often seen as the epitome of weakness by the society. Just because some Hinata "fans" fetishize this, doesn't mean that was the intention of the creator. Some people are genuinely uncomfortable with conflict. Some people just hate arguments. Does that make them submissive? Not at all. Just look at the way Hinata deals with Toneri in TL. Imho she is far more dangerous (and better) than her RoTN counterpart. For real, 99% of Hinata hatedom is just stigmatizing introversion and victim blaming.
